15. Blues on My Trail
(Heikkilä-McGowan)

I think Jore had a bass line for this and I wrote the words around that. It was supposed to go on a Mescaline Smugglers CD but must have got lost or forgotten about. I overdubbed a slide guitar solo when I was visiting this year and that's as much as I can say about it - apart from I think Jore wrote the 'Sorry son, no can do' line. --Davy

Ain't no one who can tell of the trouble I've seen
Got them blues on my trail, do you know what I mean
I've been down for so long, I can't understand why
Gonna have them old blues till the day that I die

Well the truth must be told, so the Bible do say
Well the truth of my life is I live day to day
Yes I prayed to the Lord, 'Save my soul I beg you',
But the Lord answered back, 'Sorry son - no can do'.

I hear voices at night and they sure whisper low
I just can't figure out where they've gone when they go
Well I truly believe in my mind there's a crack
Cause when I talk to myself someone answers me back

Ain't no one who can tell of the trouble I've seen
Got them blues on my trail, do you know what I mean
I've been down for so long, I can't understand why
Gonna have them old blues till the day that I die
