5. If I Told You I Loved You
(McGowan)

Sometimes I try to write something with a 1960s sound. This is about being 17 at the local dance hall on a Saturday night. The strummed guitar is an ancient f-hole Olympia that's literally falling to pieces - I usually only use it for slide because the action is high enough to cut your fingers off - but I decided to take a chance here. --Davy

It's late in the evening
There's just time for one final dance
I'm wondering if I have the courage
To take a chance
I know you're no second hand lady
You're the real deal
If I told you I loved you
How would you feel?

We're moving real close
To the sound of the local band's beat
Your head's on my shoulder
As we slowly shuffle our feet
We're going round in circles

A wheel moving within a wheel
If I told you I loved you
How would you feel?

The dancing is over
The bus is our only way home
It's raining but inside the shelter
We're sitting alone
Your sleepy eyes smile into mine
As you fix your high heel
If I told you I loved you
How would you feel?
