Auntie Maggie took us to the seaside one fine day
At 8 a.m. on Friday on the 23rd of May
Uncle George was asked if he would like to come along
But he was much too busy watching Fay Wray in King Kong

We took the bus and then the train and then we saw the sea
It looked a lovely shade of blue - or so it seemed to me
We had our little pails and spades and made a castle there
Upon the sand as seagulls flew and cried high in the air

And then we ate our sandwiches under the midday sun
I do believe that we had never shared in so much fun
Then Auntie Maggie dozed awhile as we explored rock pools
All full of fish and little crabs and shells that shone like jewels

It still lives in my memory, that day from long ago
When we were so much younger and the world was much more slow
We’ve lost something along the way, now everything’s so fast
The future’s now the present and the present is the past

02. The Trip
(Heikkilä-McGowan) Davy sent me some months ago a ten poem set (which he has totally forgot now) and this was among them. I took quite a long time to compose it but it was clear to me right away that this will be some kind of folk music track. I'm happy with my playing more than my shy singing, but what can you do. Ask for your money back? --Jore I vaguely recall writing this poem. I really did have an Auntie Maggie & Uncle George - but I don’t think they ever took me on a trip to the seaside. Jore sings it very well and plays lovely mandolin too. --Davy
