Well I’m ragged and dirty, broke and I’m hungry too
If I clean up pretty mama can I stay the night with you
If I can’t come in let me settle down by your door
And I’ll be gone so soon your man won’t even know
How can I stay here feeling so ill at ease
And the woman I got do just what she please
I’m leavin’ in the morning’ even if I have to ride the blind
Lord I’ve been mistreated and I don’t mind dying.
08. Ragged & Dirty
(Willie Brown) The last truly magnificent country blues song. The original was recorded by Alan Lomax on a field trip in the early 1940s. Country blues was 'old hat' by then - but to my mind this is arguably the greatest ever written.
--Davy Good old Alan and Willie. A toast for them! Davy should be much more famous. But what would happen then to BMB? Better this way! --Jore
