I had a gal in Charlottesville
Meant ‘she wont' when she say ‘she will'
She was sweet as sweet can be
When I had a ten dollar bill on me
It's so sad you know

I bummed down the M&O
Had no particular place to go
Got some work at the Jackson place
But the big boss man didn't like my face
It's so sad you know

I've picked cotton, I've drove steel
I've played guitar on Fifth and Beale
I'm a poor old boy, I ain't got no home
Don't know where I'm bound or where I come from
It's so sad you know

04. It's So Sad
(McGowan) Not in any way autobiographical - I categorically deny ever having had a girl in Charlottesville - not even Charlotte herself. I got to test out my new steel guitar on a few tracks in this collection. Davy (Eric) Hamilton plays some mean lead guitar here too. Good of Davy and Mark to join in and add their own special ingredients to the mix. Worked out well from my point of view. --Davy I don't know what to say except I sure like this. The whole thing is mixed great together. --Jore
