I put a penny in the pretty pewter cup
Of an old man sitting with his little pup,
And he smiled, then he laughed at the hole in his boot,
Then he played a jolly tune on his old tin flute.

And when the tune was over he stood up next to me,
And invited me to join him and to share some tea,
So we walked down the road where he brewed some up
And he handed me it over in the pretty pewter cup.

Then he talked of his life and I thought it fine,
To be sitting there beside him at the age of nine,
And I made it my ambition that when I grew up
I would walk the whole world over with a pretty pewter cup

01. The Pretty Pewter Cup
(Heikkilä-McGowan) The other of my favourite new composition along with 'The Peacock' from the cd 3. I play everything here, also the shy tin whistle. --Jore Another of my favourite subjects seems to be tramps, hobos and wanderers. Jore made a very pretty melody for my pretty pewter cup --Davy
