Far upstream on the Limpopo
Where the crocodiles and hippos go
Chugged an old steamboat with its funnel red
And a man on board asleep in bed

Now the man was old with his jaws clapped in
And he smoked cigars and he drank neat gin
Sometimes he answered to the name of Sam
Though they called him Fred in Vietnam

He’d been searching all his life you see
For the fabled land of Po-Keri
Where gold and jewels lay on the ground
Without any need to be found

Sam chased his dream for 60 years
Through flood and thunder, drought and tears
And all the while his boat puffed steam
For what’s a man without a dream?

And so the steamboat shudders on
Going up river in early dawn
Has Sam not heard the wild birds call?
Perhaps he’s not asleep at all.

01. On The Limpopo
(Heikkilä-McGowan) One of the poems Davy's sent that I knew exactly what will be the melody. I was surprised to find out Limpopo is a real river in Africa. I thought Davy made it up by himself. I used pc drums but added a real tabla to it. Obviously not too bad because I chose this to be an opening track. --Jore Geography was obviously not Jore’s best subject at school. Great melody for my little poem - it’s always a surprise to me how he finds tunes for my midnight ramblings. --Davy
