Jenny and I were lovers
Long before you came along
We took all the joy from life that we could take
Jenny and I were walking
On the Boulevard St. Michel
While you were blowing out nine candles on your cake
And what a life we had in Paris in the 70s
And what a time we had there making all our plans
But heartache’s always in the wings, with a killer’s smile
And she found us, like the rest, after a while.

Jenny could brighten up a room
Just walking through the door
She was my first love and she will be my last
And I will never forget her
And what she meant to me
No matter how many weary years go past
We were so young and full of hope and fancy free
We could have lived upon our love and that alone
But Life’s a heartless mistress my experience has shown
And her lesson left me here sad and alone.

(McGowan) I don't know why but I find some relativity between this track and 'Child Of The Times' from the cd 3. Which is not a bad thing at all, on the contrary. Nice sad song. And not so sad after all. --Jore I suppose it is sad. I don't like nostalgia - but it does seem to come into my songs quite a bit. Hints of young love in Paris in the 70s on this one - with Mark again having a big impact on the end result. --Davy
