An old man came to my door one night
His body broke and bent in two,
An old man came to my door one night
And I knew not what to do.

For I thought I saw but a beggar man,
Just a beggar man with his hand outstretched
And with silver coin from my pocket book
I hoped to satisfy the wretch.

But as I reached out to fulfil my task
I saw something glinting within his hand,
Then he raised his eyes up to meet my own
And ‘Take this,’ was his command.

But for all I tried to pick up the disc
I could move it not from his fingers curled,
‘What is this?’ I cried and he sadly said,
‘Tis the sin of all the world.’

The old man turned then and walked away
As the crescent moon filled the autumn sky,
And I felt a weight deep within my heart
Though I could not answer why.

11. The Old Man
(Heikkilä-McGowan) I found this old demo made to a poem by Davy from some years ago. I was in the deep flu - you can hear it from my voice - and this really was a demo for Tuomas to sing (we never got there) but I thought now what the heck, this is where I can place it now, if ever. --Jore I think this poem is as old as the old man in the poem. I believe it was written as a companion piece to 'The Snare' which we recorded on a KMQ CD. Good to have it recorded Deep Flu Jore. --Davy
