01. Stigu on syytön
(Heikkilä) I confess: I don't know any French words at all. This gibberish, or should I say Jormish, is just words I made up to fit the melody. The only sensible sentence is 'Stigu on syytön' which actually is Finnish, meaning Stigu is innocent. There is a story behind this song.

Stig 'Stigu' Wetzell was the Finnish icehockey goal keeper. Wetzell gave a positive doping sample, playing in the World Cup in Finland 1974. Finland had beaten Czechoslovakia 5-2. Wetzell was raffled after the match a second time during the tournament into a doping test. His samples showed some traces of ephedrine. Finland was sentenced to lose 5-0 to Czechoslovakia and Wetzell was banned from the tournament. Finland would have won the bronze medal without this tragedy, taking its first medal ever on the history of the IIHF World Championship. The Wetzell doping case attracted considerable debate. Wetzell asserted his innocence, and even conspiracy theories were mentioned. In any case, testing was still in its early stages at that time, and the test conditions were a little unclear. The players held their testing mainly as an opportunity to drink beer after the match. Team mates consider Wetzell was innocent, so do I and always have. When this track was just a midi melody, my boy Janne (about 10 years at the time) gave me the best possible compliment ever, he asked: "How come this song is not our national hymn?".... --Jore
Kiitos Jore…- mutta Stigu on syyllinen! Very pretty melody - very like a hymn. The Jormish lyrics sound very authentic and I'd like to hear it speeded up with an accordion and a banjo added to make it sound Cajun. --Davy
