It was 50 years ago when I first came to this land
Across the deep blue ocean and the desert sand
I headed for the goldfields just as fast as I could get
I came to seek my fortune, but I haven't found it yet

I bought some land and settled down, I found myself a wife
We raised three strong and healthy sons to help us in our life
The Civil War it took them all in its bloody net
I came to seek my fortune, but I haven't found it yet

And now the sun is going down, I fear the cold dark night
I've lost in life's long battle, yes I've been beaten in the fight
I live alone with sadness and a heartful of regret
I came to seek my fortune, but I haven't found it yet

2. Fortune
(McGowan) A sad tale of a man who went to America to seek his fortune – but didn't find it. Nothing too exciting happening here but I guess it's OK. --Davy

It's more than just OK. Great sounds, effects, playing, everything. Especially the sad melody. --Jore
